Gov. Jared Polis is scheduled to give a live update at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 2 on Colorado’s COVID-19 response. The news briefing will be conducted from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

Polis is traveling to Greeley, Windsor, and Fort Collins on Oct. 2 to visit organizations supported by the COVID-19 Relief Fund and meet with local business people and elected officials.

At the briefing, he’ll be joined by Betsey Markey, executive director of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade; Rick Garcia, executive director of the Department of Local Affairs; and state Rep. Mary Young, D-Greeley; according to a statement from the governor’s office.

Through Sept. 30, Colorado had 71,218 cases of COVID-19 and 1,962 deaths due to the disease, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The weekly average of daily new cases was 533 for the week ending Sept. 30 — down about 9% from the previous week, when the average was 589 new cases per day.

At his last COVID-19 briefing, Polis and school officials begged Colorado parents to enroll their children in school.

State officials were hearing anecdotally from districts about declines in overall enrollment across the state in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The number of students enrolled in school plays a critical role in how much funding school districts receive from the state.
